If you have kids, no matter what age, you know that text messaging is usually wanted for those that carry cell phones.  And, even if you are a parent that only wants your children to have a cell phone to use on a limited “as needed” basis, and requests for no text services on the cell phone service plan, the cell phone companies insist that they cannot just turn texting off.  Since you must have texting on the service (the reason why is that this is the way most cell phone companies communicate with their customers, of course, with no charge if the text comes from them), this leaves you with a couple of options.  I recently called T-mobile to see what they could offer.  These are their suggestions as follows.

If you don’t sign up for a texting plan, each text either in or out costs you $.15.  This adds up very quickly into hundreds of dollars, if your child or teen decides that they will do some texting regardless of the rules you set on texting.  T-mobile has two offers.  The first offer was to get unlimited texting for $20 per month.  The second suggestion they offered was 400 texts for $4.99 per month (but again anything over is .15 per minute). So if you can afford the unlimited plan and you want peace of mind knowing that your texting bill will never exceed $20, that is certainly the smartest buy.
